The Boys & Girls Club of Chicago - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. branch in Garfield, Chicago - renovation project, built on the NikeLab Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh’s 2019 community work, emphasizing physical give-back with immediate and lasting impact. The basketball court, locker rooms, and game spaces were refurbished, incorporating sustainable materials, equipment & fixtures and repurposing original reclaimed elements such as court flooring, which was used in new trophy case, tables, and seating. A mural by local Chicago artist Max Sansing now anchors the basketball court, the heart of the club. The re-opening during All-Star Week 2020 featured community events and introduced the “All-Star Academy,” a program offering training and education in sport design, science, and journalism.

Project Features:
Architectural design, refurbishment & retrofit, circular design, artist collaboration, community organization partnership and give-back, event marketing, branded sport moment city “takeover” strategy & planning, brand toolkit/playbook, operational excellence *budget, schedule, delivery.
